V2X: How is smart connectivity making its way onto the roads?

Vehicles already monitor their immediate surroundings using powerful sensors such as cameras, radar, and LiDAR. But what is happening around the next curve, behind a building, or in a vehicle ahead? This is exactly where Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication comes in. It enables the exchange of information between vehicles, road infrastructure, and traffic management systems - and can thus improve safety and traffic flow.

Technologically speaking, V2X is no longer a distant dream. The first applications are already in use in vehicles and on the road. Nevertheless, a large-scale rollout in Europe has not yet been achieved. Why is that? What technical, economic, and organizational hurdles must be overcome? And how can individual pilot projects be turned into a functioning overall system?

Our expert Marc Seidel explores these questions in the latest episode of the automotiveIT podcast “Was mich bewegt” together with Pascal Nagel. The conversation covers the potential of V2X, the challenges of a complex ecosystem, and the differing conditions in Europe and China. They also discuss the role that existing cellular networks, software solutions, and new insights from vehicle safety assessments can play in further development.

JOYNEXT has been working in the field of connected mobility for many years and brings extensive experience from international V2X projects to the table. In the podcast, Marc Seidel discusses what is needed for the next step and how existing technologies can be used pragmatically to bring V2X into practical use more quickly.
