JOYNEXT and Autobrains: Strategic partnership for innovative autonomous assistance systems

Dresden/Tel Aviv. Intelligent cameras – cost-effective overall system. JOYNEXT, in collaboration with the Israeli company Autobrains, has developed groundbreaking ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) technologies that are specifically tailored to the needs of manufacturers of small and compact vehicles. The novel solution combines AI-based perception software with control software in a compact module. The key advantage of this technology lies in the integrated development from a sole source, making it more cost-effective than comparable solutions on the market.

Recently, both cooperation partners successfully demonstrated the smart camera on a test track in Germany. JOYNEXT plans to position itself as a competent supplier of autonomous driving technologies with an expanded product portfolio. This innovative solution provides OEMs with a cost-efficient, reliable and future-oriented technology. The smart camera is expected to be available to customers worldwide in 2025.

JOYNEXT is expanding its global market position in the field of autonomous driving 

JOYNEXT plans to launch the intelligent camera system in the course of 2025. The partnership will enable JOYNEXT to further expand its expertise in the field of autonomous driving: “Building a strong ecosystem is crucial to offering our global customers reliable and future-oriented technologies,” says Stavros Mitrakis, CEO of JOYNEXT GmbH. “Autobrains is a suitable partner. ADAS is becoming the standard

“Driver assistance systems are becoming the standard in all vehicle segments and regions thanks to stricter regulations and NCAP safety ratings,” emphasizes Manuel Yoon, Managing Director and VP Strategy of Autobrains Germany. “However, it is still a challenge to provide these assistance systems to automotive manufacturers and drivers in a cost-effective manner. Our contribution is to reduce the number of accidents by providing technologies that enable autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning systems and intelligent speed assistance for all. In addition, we can reduce the burden on drivers with comfort features such as adaptive cruise control.”

JOYNEXT develops ADAS technologies for small and compact cars in partnership with Autobrains

ADAS technologies are already widely adopted in the mid-size and luxury segments and are often considered a standard feature. In the entry-level segment, however, there is still considerable potential for further development, as the additional costs for car manufacturers pose a challenge. This is where JOYNEXT's "smart camera" comes in: it offers a cost-effective, high-quality and reliable solution that makes ADAS technologies accessible to entry-level vehicles. This is an important step towards safer mobility for all vehicle classes. “Currently, ADAS technologies are not yet widely used in the entry-level and mid-range segments. With the smart camera solution from JOYNEXT and Autobrains’ unique AI technology, the system offers high performance and accuracy.The software can be easily adapted to dynamic conditions worldwide and can therefore be used in all markets. This means that the system can be quickly customized and launched on the respective market, offering significant cost advantages,” explains Jan Kolanko, Senior Manager for ADAS at JOYNEXT GmbH.

Specialist in self-learning AI

The innovative camera solution was developed by JOYNEXT in close collaboration with Autobrains. The Israeli company specialises in artificial intelligence for the automotive industry and consciously opts for self-learning AI technologies. Igal Raichelgauz, founder and CEO of Autobrains, explains: “By using Autobrains' new, self-learning and signature-based Liquid AI technology, we can develop a much more efficient and robust perception software. Compared to conventional AI algorithms, we require significantly fewer resources – both for training the algorithm on specific traffic situations and for the hardware requirements for system integration of the software. This enables us to offer high-quality perception that runs with low computing and memory requirements on very small SoCs (System on Chip) from 1 TOPS (Tera-operations per second).

Complete system for ADAS

JOYNEXT integrates Autobrains' AI software with a control software that is specially adapted for the European market. This turns the camera into a complete, standalone system that is ready to use. By contrast, comparable solutions from other manufacturers rely on individual components, requiring OEMs to procure the various solutions separately. “Our smart camera combines data collection, processing and control in a compact device. Furthermore, there are expansion stages with an additional interior camera, enabling the system to also meet driver monitoring requirements. This makes these products an attractive solution, especially for European and Asian OEMs,” explains Jan Kolanko, Senior Manager for ADAS at JOYNEXT GmbH.
